Storyline:
Hari, a 30-year-old taxi driver, lives in a small town in the Himalayan foothills of India. He is getting married to Suman, a girl he has never met. Two years ago, his father arranged the match. Hari has only had one glimpse of Suman. Her face was covered and all he could tell was that she was very small. Tradition dictates that Hari and Suman will only see each other on the day of their wedding. But Hari has found another way to get to know her: on the mobile phone. Over the past few months Hari and Suman have spoken to each other every day and fallen in love. Hari knows that for a girl, marriage is a traumatic event when she must abandon the comfort and security of her home and step into a new life with a stranger. He worries about how it will be when they finally meet. Hari and Suman see each other properly for the first time during the wedding ceremony. Wailing loudly, Suman is carried away from her home in a palanquin. Hari and Suman spend their first night together as a married couple. Will their telephone love prove strong enough to overcome the awkward obstacles of an arranged marriage? Hari's unusual courtship and marriage, coupled with his frank and humorous confessions of fear, doubt, hope and anticipation, provide a warm and illuminating insight into the changes taking place in India as modernisation and globalisation collide with age-old traditions and customs.
